Authorities in Dekalb County, Georgia, say a deadly shooting Wednesday night in Lithonia appears to be a case of the victim protecting himself during an armed robbery.
The crime occurred as the victim was walking his dog. An SUV stopped near where the man was walking and two teens got out of the vehicle, pulled a gun and attempted to rob the dog walker. However, the man with the dog was also armed, pulled out his own gun, and shot one of the robbers, while the second robber fled the scene.
The suspect who was shot died from his injuries and, despite an extensive search that included the use of a K-9 unit, the second suspect was not found.
The would-be victim was not injured during the attempted robbery and, according to DeKalb County Lt. Rob Bryant, no charges are expected to be filed against him.
