A heated argument inside a Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, shoe store over the weekend turned violent, leaving two people suffering from non-critical injuries after gunfire erupted. The center of the argument? A pair of recently released Nike Air Jordans.
Authorities say the shopping center was full of people on the busy Saturday morning and they have plenty of witnesses, but no one in custody at this time.
The argument, which started inside the store, was heard by several people, as was the gunfire once the argument spilled outside and into the parking lot. The first officers to respond to the scene actually heard the gunfire as well, and while a crowd of young people was seen in the parking lot where the shooting occurred, most dispersed quickly as patrol cars pulled in.
The two individuals who were shot were transported to a local hospital and are expected to make a full recovery.
Shoppers, which included many families, were glad the injuries weren’t life threatening and that no one else was injured, but it also left many shaking their heads in disbelief.
“In all reality, it’s our fault,” said Latrissa Favorite, who was at the center when the shooting occurred. “Our mentality needs to change, then we wouldn’t have things like this happen.”
“Because it’s not the shoes,” she noted. “We can take those Jordans away and it will happen over something else.”
