America’s oldest living veteran is mighty fine at 109 (VIDEO)

The oldest known veteran in America turned 109-years-old Sunday, but although he’s been around for more than a century, Richard Overton is still full of life.

Friends, family, and even some strangers, helped Overton celebrate the occasion with a party at his neighbor’s house, which was sponsored by Mighty Fine Burgers and Shakes.

Austin Mayor Steve Adler and Austin Police Department Assistant Chief Jason Dusterhoft were among those enjoying the special day with the World War II veteran.

“That generation made such a difference, so we think it’s something good for the police department to come and show their support,” said Dusterhoft.

Overton said he wasn’t expecting so many people at his party, but was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed the day.

Overton apparently still drives and goes to church every Sunday, offering rides in his old Ford pickup truck to any of the widows in need. He also does his own yard work and has been known to enjoy cigars and whiskey, which he said is “just like medicine.”
