You remember, Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg’s ZF-1 pod weapons system from the Fifth Element, right? The Mangalores sure do.
Equipped with a machine gun, rocket launcher, poison arrow launcher, net launcher, flamethrower (“Mah favorite,” says Zorg), and the “all-new Ice Cube System” which, apparently freezes shit, the ZF-1 also had a little red button.
Well, the Mythbusters may be over but Tested caught up with Adam Savage recently to check on his long-running (17 year construction period) ode to Monsieur Zorg’s pod kit and found it to be in working order including everything from an Estes Bullpup model rocket, to a butane torch, as shown above– though it is out of spec from the OG’s.
Interesting enough, the good scholars over at IMFDB hold that, according to Simon Atherton, the armorer who designed and built the weapons used in The Fifth Element, firing versions of the ZF-1 were built around 5.45x39mm AKS-74U carbines.
Sweet!
