Upper Marlboro, MD –-(Ammoland.com)- Right around the end of 2014, I was blessed with an Accu-Tac SR-5 Bipod for my LAR Grizzly AR-15.
It’s a state of the art CNC machined piece of art that fit my rifle “to a tee”. Accu-Tac is a US company that is cranking out some really good stuff that you would be proud to own. They also make some pretty good muzzle breaks too.
This bipod is flat black anodized aircraft aluminum. Since I am not “humping” this gear over rough terrain I don’t mind the extra 1.25 lbs.
I really like the scalloped solid design. It looks like a butterfly knife I once had from the Philippines.
The bipod attached effortlessly to my Picatinny rail system and can come off without tools as well. It has a ratcheted leg extension system that can be adjusted to five different heights. The legs are spring-loaded but can be shortened with one button. The legs stand from six to ten inches when fully extended.
To adjust the legs independently, all it takes is a tug on the leg downward. You can flip them straight down or 45 degrees forward or back. They can lock securely facing the front of the muzzle or backwards. It’s all on you.
Attaching a bipod makes it part of the system for me. Even though it’s removable I am keeping it on. It’s a cool tool, just like my rifle overall.
Experienced shooters know that bipods have their limitations and uses. For me, its aesthetics more than tactics but I know that a good rest can help produce an accurate shot on a soft surface. For me, that might be a bed, the carpet, and the dirt on a range. As with most things your mileage may vary.
If you are looking for a bipod, I recommend the Accu-Tac SR 5, over some of the cheesy looking ones with the long springs and knobs that pinch your fingers and grab lint and cloth from unknown places. Accu-Tac as a company is relatively new but the customer service was great.
