Erik with IV8888 spends some time getting to know the Swedish designed semi-auto used by Egypt in the 1950s and 60s until they went AK.
The Hakim sprang from the mind of Swede Erik Eklund who created the autoloading Ljungman AG-42 rifle for the Swedish military chambered in sweet shooting 6.55x55mm Mauser. While Egypt under Nasser liked the rifle, they also had tons of German 7.92x57mm Mauser already on tap, so, after stretching the design to use the larger round and giving it a muzzle brake to try and make up for the soup sandwich, ended up with the Hakim.
It’s funky, it’s direct gas impingement with an adjustable gas system, it’s 10-pounds unloaded and eats regular five-round stripper clips, but it’s a nice shooter.
And it also has a sneaky little brother, the Rasheed in 7.62x39mm, but that’s another video somewhere.
