3GN Wildcard Slots At USPSA Mulit-Gun Nationals Shooting Championship
Las Vegas, NV –-(Ammoland.com)- The FNH USA 3-Gun Nation, Presented by SureFire, in cooperation with the United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA), has opened up 10 Wildcard slots for the 3-Gun Nation Championship Sept. 13 in Las Vegas.
In recognition of USPSA’s support in assisting the inaugural 3-Gun Nation (3GN) Championship, the 10 Wildcard slots will be up for grabs during the 2010 USPSA Multi-Gun Nationals Sept.9-12 at the Desert Sportman’s Rifle & Pistol Club. The 3GN Championship will be held at the same facility the following day.
The top finishers, who have not already earned a spot in the championship, in each division will earn a Wildcard birth into the 3GN Championship, giving 10 USPSA Nationals competitors a shot at $5,000, courtesy of Timney Triggers, $10,000, courtesy of US P.A.L.M., and the grand prize of $25,000, courtesy of Leupold. There will be four Wildcard slots given out to Tactical Optics, two to Open, two to Tacticall Irons, and one each to Heavy Metal and Heavy Metal Optics. There are currently still slots available for Multi-Gun Nationals.
USPSA Nationals recognizes the following divisions: Standard, Standard Tactical, Open, Heavy Metal Standard and Heavy Metal Tactical. However, the 3GN Championship will be a Tactical Optics (or Standard Tactical) event only. Competitors will be required to use their own gear throughout a portion of the 3GN Championship, which will conform to all USPSA Multi-Gun Nationals rules on division requirements, gear and scoring, and all stages of fire will be run by USPSA range officers.
“USPSA President Mike Voigt, along with Team FNH USA’s Tommy Thacker, has been an invaluable mentor from the beginning,” said 3GN Vice President Chad Adams.
“He’s given us volumes of information, pointed out possible trouble spots, and helped us to correct the mistakes we’ve made to make this series and TV show even better as we go forward. Mike wears a lot of different hats, but when he puts on the USPSA hat, he’s really acting as an ambassador for the entire sport, and these Wildcard slots are way of saying thanks to him and USPSA.”
The Wildcard slots also help alleviate the strain put on many top competitors who likely would have earned a spot through the series, but were unable to attend enough matches due to the late announcement and formation of the series for the 2010 season. At this time, the Wildcard format is likely a one-time event, with future 3GN Championships based solely on qualification from the series.
“We were literally born at SHOT Show this year,” Adams said. “So from mid-January to the first match at Superstition in March, we’re talking only a couple of months. These elite shooters had most of their calendars already set long before we ever announced what we were bringing to the table. We want the best shooters in the world competing for the 3GN Championship. This Wildcard format will enable more elite shooters to earn a spot in the match. But they’re going to have to fight and claw, because there will be several shooters gunning for those coveted slots. Everyone will have to earn their way.”
The next stop on the FNH USA 3-Gun Nation Tour, presented by SureFire, is the final qualifying event of the season, the JP Rocky Mountain 3-Gun, Aug. 5-7 at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, N.M.
