Iowa –-(Ammoland.com)-  We would like to invite you to attend the 20th annual National Bobwhite Technical Committee meeting (formerly Southeast Quail Study Group).

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will host the 2014 National Bobwhite Technical Committee Annual meeting at the Sheraton West Des Moines Hotel, 1800 50th Street, West Des Moines, Iowa on July 29-August 1, 2014.

The theme for the four day meeting is “Living on the Edge” – where the northern edge of the quail range meets the transition edge between grasslands, forests, and agriculture.

The meeting will offer many opportunities to network with colleagues and discuss the latest advancements in research and management of Northern Bobwhite.  Join us Tuesday evening for a Welcome Reception, Wednesday evening for a Social Reception and Poster Session, and Thursday for an Awards Banquet at Ramsey Farm following our field tour of south-central Iowa’s premier grassland landscapes with some of the best habitat for supporting Iowa’s quail population as well as a small population of Greater Prairie-Chickens.

August is the hottest and most humid part of the year in Iowa with temperatures often in the 90’s and a heat index in the 100’s. We may be fortunate to avoid the worst of the season early in the month, but please plan accordingly for your own comfort and health.

Located in central Iowa, West Des Moines offers many shopping and entertainment opportunities, outdoor trails, and area wineries and breweries. The historic 23 carat gold domed Iowa State Capitol Building in Des Moines, featuring a display of battle flags carried by the Iowa regiments in various wars, is worth a visit if you have the time. There are many franchise restaurants and local favorites nearby in every direction from the meeting, and the West Des Moines Sheraton will be offering free shuttle service to them for our attendees during the meeting.

All registrations will go through the Iowa Chapter of The Wildlife Society via this website link.   Please note before you register be sure to add iowatws.org to your safe senders list (particularly for Hotmail, Outlook, MSN, and Windows Live users), or you may not receive your confirmation and registration receipt for the meeting.
