Investigators looking into Sunday morning’s detonation of explosive devices outside two Las Cruces churches are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man seen on surveillance video near Calvary Baptist Church.
The device at Calvary Baptist Church detonated at approximately 8:20 a.m. on Sunday, August 2, while the device at Holy Cross Catholic Church was reported about 20 minutes later.
Although no injuries were reported, investigators believe the two bombs could have caused serious injury or death had someone been within close proximity at the time of detonation.
The man recorded on the surveillance video was seen walking to and from Calvary Baptist Church around the time of the explosion there last Sunday. He was wearing plaid shorts and a blue, short-sleeved T-shirt.
Investigators are calling this man a person of interest but do not necessarily believe he is a suspect. Anyone who can help identify the man is asked to call the FBI tipline at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324).
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information that helps solve the case.
