Indianapolis, IN –-(Ammoland.com)- Tearing off another year on the calendar, wow. The year 2012 doesn’t seem like we could really have that year rolling up on us.
I mean most of the outer space movies from the 50’s and 60’s didn’t go that far into the future. I don’t think Rod Serling with his Twilight Zone TV show traveled that deep into the land beyond beyond.
Nevertheless, this is the mile post coming up on us.
We’ve sure traveled along way from 1776. Sometimes I wonder what the folks back then would say about this country if they could see it now. No doubt that there’s been a lot of accomplishments in medicine, agriculture, living comfort, communication and much, much more.
I kind of wonder if we haven’t been traveling in two directions though at the same time. While we have been experiencing these advances in everyday life, sometimes faster than we can absorb and comprehend I think it seems like as a society we’ve also be moving backwards.
Today there are so many people that know less about this country and how it began and what it is that makes America different than the rest of the world and why.
Back in 1776 the struggle was for freedom and liberty, today its to knock down the doors and people charging into the mall for a pair of Air Jordan’s. Somehow it just seems that we might be a little off track.
2012 is going to present another presidential election and some state elections, too. It would be nice if there could be a turnout of voters at the polls equal to the numbers of people who right after Thanksgiving dinner bolted out of the house with tent, sleeping bag and pepper spray in hand heading for the all night vigil outside the shopping malls. But then considering the mentality of some people maybe it wouldn’t be a good thing.
“We’re developing a new citizenry. One that will be very selective about cereals and automobiles, but won’t be able to think.” ― Rod Serling
Lets pray for a better New Year.
